Cigar culture has evolved over the centuries and developed into various cultures and styles. This alternative cigarette, produced in America and developed in Europe, has left the realm of traditional cigarettes and formed its own unique cigar culture. The different cigars are characterized by their packaging.
There are two main types of traditional packaging for cigars: paper and wood.
Among them, there are two kinds of paper packaging
1. Dress Boxes
2. Paper Box
Paper box packaging is characterized by easy portability, various patterns and colorful paintings, and bright colors with characteristics. However, because of the presence of paper, it is essential to note that colored paper may absorb moisture and cause cigars to become too wet for long-term storage. Therefore, they feel less effective than wooden boxes in terms of preservation.
Next, let's talk about wooden boxes for cigars. There are two main types of wooden boxes for cigars.
1. Slide cigar Boxes
The classic Cuban packaging method, used for almost all 50-pack cigars, is a box with a sliding lid. This is a selection of "cabinet quality" Habanos boxes designed for the British in the early 20th century, in which the head of the cigar is usually round.
There are two types of drawstring boxes.
SLB (Slide Lid Boxes)
Varnished Slide Lid Boxes (VSLB)
However, this type of packaging has a significant disadvantage: the sliding lid does not seal well enough and is susceptible to moisture in humid areas or when storing cigars for long periods.
2. Flip Lid Wooden Boxes
This type of packaging has a classic look without losing its premium taste. There are two types of flip-top boxes.
The ordinary flip-top box: SBN (Semi Boite Nature)
These boxes are usually used for 5, 10, 12, 24, and 25 cigars.
The more advanced Varnished Boite Nature is a flip-top wooden box. The height difference on the lid provides a better seal, and the brass hinges for boxes with cigar box locks and gold color highlight the luxury and nobility of the cigars.
Because of the thin thickness of cigar boxes, the flip-top type wooden boxes with hinges require high precision and quality of hardware and the craftsman's processing level. If the metal parts are rusted or deformed by aging, it will lead to the box cracking and scrapping.
Therefore, high-quality brass hinges for boxes and cigar box locks are essential for high-grade wooden cigar boxes.
